Scheduling Study Time

Time is precious. Before signing up for a course which is delivered all or partially over the Web, look at your calendar and daily schedule and verify that you do have enough time to participate in the course.

"When I heard about taking an online ESL class at first, I thought that it would be suitable for me because I could make my own schedule. However, my first impression gradually disappeared after I began taking the class and found myself in a mess. In the beginning, I should have been more disciplined and done better scheduling. After I stopped procrastinating, I was able to catch up. In the end, I think studying online has been beneficial for me and I am much better at managing my time now."

The same amount of time is required for taking a web-based course or a campus-based course. The course units will suggest the hours needed to complete the reading, interaction and assignments.

UNITS PARTICIPATION HOURS
1 unit 16 hours + homework
2 units 32 hours + homework
5 units 80 hours + homework

Instructors differ in the amount of homework they assign.
